I love welcoming a brand new year, with its promise of new beginnings! As do many, I find it to be the perfect time to reflect on the year behind us and make improvements where there are gaps, personally and professionally.
A year ago the team here at One Call Now resolved to work more closely with our faith-based clients in 2016. We pledged to gain an even better understanding of their communication challenges, and what we could do to help solve them. How did we do?
HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS:
Communities of Faith Grant Program
In the Spring, we launched our first Communities of Faith Grant Program. The deserving winners of this inaugural program were awarded with unlimited, free use of our service for a full year. We had such a positive reaction from communities across the country that we’ve already vowed to offer the grants again in 2017. Stay tuned for details coming in January.
Safety and Security Best Practices
Unfortunately, the trend of increased violence against faith-based communities continued in 2016. To more fully understand the security challenges faced by today’s houses of worship, we embarked on a primary research project in early Fall.
Research. We surveyed thousands of communities from around the country and asked them to tell us how they are dealing with the tough issue of member safety and security. We wanted to learn more about what steps leaders and staff are currently taking to combat the problem, and how communication technology fits into potential solutions. What we found surprised us. If you haven’t already received a copy, click here to see the results summary.
Webinars. Along with research, we also partnered with two security experts to share their knowledge with our clients and the public. We hosted two informative webinars.
Intruder Awareness and Response was co-hosted with Vaughn Baker, President of Strategos International. Strategos International has trained and provided protection solutions to over 80,000 church, business and organization leaders. Vaughn shared best practices for protecting and communicating with members in crisis situations. If you missed it, you can view the recording here.
Our second webinar, Security and Protection for Houses of Worship, was co-produced with Jim McGuffey, M.A., CPP, PSP, CPI, and Owner of A.C.E. Security Consultants. Jim is one of only approximately 100 security professionals globally who have earned all three board certifications accredited by Department of Homeland Security, and specializes in security for houses of worship.
